just the perfect amount of cowbell
my eclipse perspective
Posted by: charlie grieferover on the cfeclipse-users mailing list, a thread was started asking folks to share pics of their eclipse perspective.
within eclipse, there are so many plugins, perspectives, views, layouts, etc available, that it's easy for some potentially time-saving tidbits to get lost in the shuffle.
what my current cfeclipse perspective looks like:
within the cfeclipse (which is version 1.3.1.5) perspective, i'm using:
- aptana (for css)
- jsEclipse (for, well, javascript... i know that aptana does js as well, but i prefer jsEclipse over aptana for working with .js files)
- surround scm plugin (we use seapine's surround scm software at work. the plugin lets me do everything from check in/check out/view history/etc right in eclipse. the only thing i've not been able to figure out is how to actually promote files using the plugin.
over on the left, in a 'fastview' (which means it automatically minimizes when it loses focus), i've got the standard old navigator view, file explorer view (almost never used anymore), snippets, and RDS file view.
as of eclipse 3.3 (europa), other views can be very easily minimized/restored, so i take advantage of that vertically along the right side of the screen with methods and dictionary views, as well as cfunit, cf frameworks explorer (LOVE this plugin), and the component explorer.
horizontally along the bottom, i think i've got the fairly standard tasks, problems, bookmarks, etc.
98% of the time, my screen looks like the screenshot. nothing but editor. the other 2% of the time, it's nice to be able to click open a view ("restoring" it, which means it won't auto-hide, when necessary), and get the information i need.
next up with eclipse itself is looking into the mylyn plugin. i've heard nothing but raves about it. just not sure if it's really of any practical use if you're not using an external bug tracking app. thoughts? :)

EDIT: if you're a flickrer, michael henke set up the (succinctly named) flickr group Show Us Ur CFEclipse perspective layout. feel free to share your own screenshots there!
