Google Pagerank

Posted by: jmiloj

One of the joys of web work is seeing people you have never met make their way to your site and wander through your creation.

Google is one of the most popular ways that random people will find your content.

Figuring out how to get your site to appear in google searches is a whole other issue, especially when trying to explain it to an irate customer.

Here are some tools to help figure out how google sees your site, including how pertinant it judges your overall content (called PageRank).

Visual PageRank - display your page, and a pagerank graph for every link on the page.

Page Rank Checker. - display the pagerank of your page or site

Page Rank Checker - display the pagerank in each of the google data centers.

Worth checking out and bookmarking.

Top 5 Reasons to use Coldfusion

Posted by: jmiloj

Dave Carabetta passed this along:

Tim Buntel at Adobe has been working hard on a "Top 5 Reasons to use
ColdFusion on your next Internet Application Project" document. Have a
look at that and see if it helps...it's very comprehensive:

Creating screenshots through code.

Posted by: jmiloj

How often do you need to grab a screenshot of a browser page?

I tend to do this when starting a site redesign (capture the old site), when I am putting together a sample real of past work, and even during a project to track stages or steps.

Ben Nadel created a great demo of how to do this from cold fusion,

Webshot Demo

It uses cfexecute to run an executable called Webshot created by Nathan Moinvaziri.

I'd like to pair this with a spider/site walker to automatically create a snapshot of a site, and maybe to create a thumbnail sitemap for a site.

We'll see.

Losing my innocence

Well, it seems like all the kids are doing it.

This is my first "blog" post, ever.

I am going to use this space to keep track of interesting uses for coldfusion, including extensions, snippets of code, articles to read, and technologies that can be enhanced by cold fusion.

I will probably also use it to disect cf-based sites, and see how others are doing out in the wild.
